Makana has been a student of Kumu Hula Rolanda Mohala Reese and Hālau Hula Nā Meakanu O Laka O Hawaiʻi for 25 years. For nearly two decades, she has had the privilege to serve as alakaʻi (student instructor) of the advanced wāhine class. With the blessing of Kumu Mohala and under the name Laʻikūokealaula, she will begin instructing children in early 2022 and has plans to open to adults in the fall. The focus of Papa Liko Lehua & Papa Ohiʻa Lehua will be to lay a strong foundation in hula & oli basics, create a positive atmosphere to learn, and form a lasting bond as a hula ʻohana.

Our half-hour special will feature a look at the contenders in the major Grammy categories along with Suzanne's original reporting.
Grammy-nominated producer Rogét Chahayed takes us inside his studio to show us how he came up with the hit "Kiss Me More" by Doja Cat ft. SZA. We also learn how this classically-trained musician became a hip-hop hitmaker.
We sit down with Michelle Zauner of Japanese Breakfast, an indie band with two nominations, including Best New Artist. We also discuss her bestselling book, "Crying in H-Mart." It's a fascinating look at her relationship with her late mother and her connection with her Korean-American identity.
We meet Valerie June... an African American country singer and Grammy nominee for Best American Roots song. When you hear the unique way she blends genres you'll come to understand why she's one of Bob Dylan's favorite singers!
